Metro, FairPrice to anchor mall

Metro, FairPrice to anchor mall

METRO and NTUC FairPrice will be anchor tenants at City Square Mall on Kitchener Road, near the popular Mustafa Centre, according to sources.

The 700,000 square foot mall opens in the middle of next year. The mall's developer, City Developments Ltd (CDL), yesterday said in its first quarter results statement that leasing for the property is 'progressing well with a number of anchor tenants comprising a major supermarket chain and a major department store already in place'.

A CDL spokeswoman declined to name the tenants when contacted by BT.

Industry observers reckon that FairPrice is likely to operate a big-store format at City Square Mall. The supermarket co-operative has developed a hypermarket format, FairPrice Xtra, that it piloted at Ang Mo Kio Hub.

City Square Mall's opening will add more buzz to the location, which is part of Little India. The mall will be connected to Farrer Park MRT Station.
